Modest Increase in U.S. Bean Area

WASHINGTON - Feb 27/10 - SNS -- The USDA's Economic Research Service sees the potential for dry edible bean area in the United States to post a modest increase this year.

Writing in the February edition of the Vegetables and Melons Outlook report, the ERS's Gary Lucier said, "Given relative market prices in mid-February, the area planted to dry edible beans is expected to increase in 2010 as projected changes in acreage among most bean classes would be steady to modestly larger.
