Food Aid Tenders Boost Beans

VANCOUVER - Jan 29/10 - SNS -- North American dry edible bean markets were given a solid boost during the week from recent USDA PL-480 food aid tender activity.

During the week, government buyers bought 5,610 metric tons (MT) of pinto beans for movement to Jacintoport from origin in February.

Commenting on the tender, USDA market analysts said, "Many warehouses welcomed the additional government business. This will give warehouses an opportunity to move heavy inventories of darker colored, high moisture beans. A two tied dealer values continues, due to concerns about moisture and color, with higher moisture beans selling at the lower end of the range and pre-rain beans moving at the upper side."
